The path of Ayurvedic Sadhana integrates healing Ayurveda, Pranayama, Mantra, Yoga Asana and Meditation into our everyday life; reflecting a transformative well being into our family and community.

The Ayurvedic Healing course will allow you to gain certification as an Ayurvedic Life-Style Counselor and options for further training and study in Ayurveda and Vedic Sciences. This comprehensive course covers Ayurvedic anatomy and physiology, diagnosis, nutrition, herbal therapy, aromas, yoga, Ayurvedic psychology, spiritual methods and much more. It follows the approach of Dr. Frawley's important book, Ayurvedic Healing, lauded by noted author Deepak Chopra as a "modern classic of Ayurveda, one of the most important new Ayurvedic treatment manuals." This special course - already taken by more than 5,000 people worldwide over the last 20 years - is part of Ayurvedic programs taught in the U.S, South America, Russia and Europe. A modified version of our course forms the basis of upcoming special Ayurvedic training with the Chopra Center.

The course does provide extensive training in Ayurveda and is not just an introduction to the subject for the general audience. It aims at providing the necessary foundation so that the student is able to take additional specialized study programs in Ayurveda, including clinical programs. The course includes most of the material covered in two-year Ayurvedic programs given in the West, and that devised for two-year programs for foreign students in India.

The Ayurvedic Healing course is primarily a course in healing. It is not specifically allied with any religious teacher, religious group or spiritual discipline, though it does stress the importance of meditation and yoga. It is allied with Ayurveda in the broadest sense as the Science of Life and recognizes the value of a diversity of Ayurvedic approaches. We do not believe in dividing up Ayurveda into brand names but try to teach the system in its broadest and most classical sense. We teach Ayurveda as a whole, not one particular form of it. The teaching is rooted in classical Ayurvedic texts but also sees the need to adapt Ayurveda for our changing times and circumstances, which are very different and present many new health challenges.

Ayurveda is not just a medical system that treats the physical body and its ailments; it also includes psychology and spirituality. These topics are presented in depth throughout the course. They are part of a holistic system of healing that considers our entire nature as body, mind and spirit. They reflect certain spiritual perceptions about life, like the law of karma, rebirth and the evolution of higher consciousness in humanity.

Although Ayurveda emphasizes the validity of the spiritual life, it can be applied on a purely physical and psychological level, though this may not allow us to understand the full scope of the system. Even as a physical medicine, Ayurveda has much to offer in terms of natural living guidance and natural health care methods.

CERTIFICATION AS AYURVEDIC LIFE-STYLE COUNSELOR- The foundation for all Ayurvedic practice is to first be able to function as an "Ayurvedic Life-Style Counselor." Such an individual is equipped with the fundamental knowledge of Ayurveda and understands its basic principles. He or she should be capable of ascertaining the following Ayurvedic information about a client:

· Constitution of the individual

· Constitutional factors behind any disease condition the individual may have.

He or she should be able to recommend the following remedial measures and explain them clearly and thoroughly:

· Diet per constitution

· Lifestyle recommendations per constitution

· General herbal remedies per constitution

· Generally recommendations to deal with primary doshic imbalances

In other words, the chief factor that characterizes an Ayurvedic Life-Style Counselor is the ability to determine imbalances relative to the Doshas of Vata, Pitta and Kapha of the Ayurvedic system. This is the basis of all Ayurvedic treatment. Without having this capacity, one cannot go far with Ayurveda. On the other hand, once having mastered this knowledge, all other approaches of Ayurvedic healing become accessible to the student because all treatment ultimately consists of balancing these fundamental biological forces on more intricate levels.

The Ayurvedic Healing course aims primarily at helping the student to become an Ayurvedic Life-Style Counselor, which is how those who successfully complete the course can see themselves. Individuals can learn to become Ayurvedic Life-Style Counselors without having previous training or licensure in any medical practice (though naturally this is very helpful). However, as this is a distance learning program, we cannot guarantee that students who complete it are competent in their application of Ayurveda. For this additional study is always advisable, particularly in the clinical application of Ayurveda.

GOALS OF THE AYURVEDIC HEALING COURSE

The course provides the fundamental knowledge necessary for any deeper pursuit of Ayurveda. It aims at providing the basic background of Ayurvedic knowledge useful for all Ayurvedic practice. The main topics include:

· Ayurvedic Anatomy and Physiology — Doshas, subdoshas, dhatus, srotas, malas, Agni etc.

· Ayurvedic Psychology — Samkhya, Yoga and Vedanta

· Determination of Constitution — Both physical and mental

· The Disease Process — Stages, symptoms, prognosis

· Diagnostic Methods — Pulse, tongue, abdomen, analysis of dhatus and srotas etc.

· Treatment Methods — Diet, herbs, aromas, colors, gems, pranic methods, mantra and meditation.

The course is most specifically aligned with the herbal and nutritional approach of the books Ayurvedic Healing, A Comprehensive Guide and The Yoga of Herbs. Ayurvedic Healing supplements the course with the differential diagnosis of disease conditions and outlines the treatment of common diseases Ayurvedically. The course also includes much information on Yoga, Prana and the Mind. These are topics addressed in Ayurveda and the Mind, and Yoga and Ayurveda. Ayurveda, Nature’s Medicine provides additional support material. The student who finishes the course should have a good knowledge of the background of Ayurveda along with keys to its dietary, herbal, yogic and psychological therapeutic approaches.

Graduates will receive a certificate as Ayurvedic Lifestyle Counselor with the American Vedic Institute and Inner Domain 5 Element Healing YOga and Ayurveda Healing.

I am so grateful for having found this offering of the Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant certification program.  It has been an unbelievable experience - much more than learning from the extensive knowledge and writings of Dr. Frawley is being embraced by the true spirit of life and healing that both he and Neva have been blessed with.  Neva is an extraordinary teacher with a deep understanding of Ayurveda but it is her love and energy that has truly changed my life and expanded my health coaching practice.
